children receiving the Sacrament of ConfirmationChurch of Our Lady Blessington

Congratulations to the winner of the Lacken & Valleymount Draw for September: Joan & Sean Farrington, Shann & Mark Morris, Teresa Geoghegan Byrne, Rachel & Niall  Jones, Marie & Peter McDonald, Frances Byrne.

Feast Day- 7th October – Our Lady of the Rosary. Our Lady of the Rosary is the title  given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who appeared to St. Dominic in the 13th century and gave him the rosary to overcome heresy and bring peace.  The word “rosary” means “garden of roses,” where each prayer is like a spiritual rose.  Praying the rosary is a way for people to ask Mary, their heavenly mother, to pray for them and to help them grow closer to Jesus. The Rosary was John Paul II’s favourite prayer, and he made time to pray all 15 decades every day. St. Padre Pio described the Rosary is our greatest weapon!

Prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary. Our Lady of the Rosary, you care for each of us with tender motherly love.  You wish us to truly turn to you so that you may care for us as a mother. Please bring all of our needs before the throne of your Divine Son, and we particularly ask today that you pray that we and all people may grow in true devotion to you!

Hail Mary. Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING Human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour, and with the earth itself. Pope Francis, Laudato Si’

CARE OF THE EARTH. Autumn Prayer We bless you; God of Seed and Harvest and we bless each other in this season of mellow fruitfulness. May the beauty of this world and the love that created it be expressed through our lives and be a blessing to others, now and always. And until we meet again, may God keep us in the hollow of His hand. Amen

Reflection Of Autumn As we watch leaves fluttering to the ground in the fall, we are reminded that nature’s cycles are mirrored in our lives.  Autumn is a time for letting go and releasing things that have been a burden. This is the right time to practice getting out of the way and letting Spirit take charge of our lives.

Confirmation Parents’ Meeting, Oct 13th 8pm Information evening for parents of children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, Church of Our Lady Blessington

Feast Days. 1st October – St. Thérèse St Thérèse was born in France. She always wanted to become a nun from a young age and joined the Carmelites in Lisieux when she was 15.  After a long struggle with tuberculosis, she died on September 30, 1897, at the age of 24. Her last words were the story of her life: “My God, I love You!” Therese helped others with small acts of kindness. Therese’s body was transferred on March 26, 1923, from the “Pittsburgh Catholic” Paris, April 9 – The body of Sister Thérèse of the Infant Jesus has been taken from the cemetery of Lisieux, where it was buried in 1897, and carried to the Lisieux Chapel of the Carmel, which is to be its final resting place.

Miraculous Invocation to  St. Therese. O Glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God. Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles… the greatest saint of Modern Times.” Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention in silence here) and to carry out your promises of spending heaven doing good on earth… of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfil your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING Everything is interconnected… genuine care for our own lives and our relationships with nature is inseparable from fraternity, justice and faithfulness to others. Pope Francis, Laudato Si’

May the crunch of the leaves beneath our feet Remind us of the brevity of this earthly life. May the steam of our breath in the cool air Remind us that it is you who give us your breath of life. May the scurrying of the squirrels and the migration of the birds Remind us that you call us to follow your will. We praise you for your goodness forever and ever. Amen

A Conversation about Faith Evening talk, discussion and refreshments with Fr Gerry Kane 7pm Monday 29th Sept, Coimín Centre. All Welcome.

The Annual Diocesan Safeguarding Sunday  will take place on Sunday 28th September.  It’s a time when we reflect on the importance of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in our parishes and communities.

Feast Days, 23rd Sept – St. Padre Pio St. Padre Pio was born in Pietrelcina, Italy, in 1887 and from a young age,  he was very religious, dedicating his life to God when he was only five years old. He was an Italian priest known for his deep faith, love for the poor, and many spiritual gifts, including the stigmata, which he had for fifty years, the gift of bilocation and receiving  divine visions. He spent many hours in the confessional, heard people’s confessions for up to 15 hours a day. He helped establish a hospital called  the Home for the Relief of Suffering.  In 2002, the Catholic Church formally declared him a saint.  He is known as a patron saint for those suffering, adolescents, and  for spiritual healing.

Prayer for the Intercession of St. Pio This prayer is attributed to St. Pio Devotions Dear God, you generously blessed Your servant, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, with the gifts of the Spirit.

You marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son. Endowed with the gift of discernment, St. Pio labored endlessly in the confessional for the salvation of souls. With reverence and intense devotion in the celebration of Mass, he invited countless men and women to a greater union with Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, I confidently beseech You to grant me the grace of (here state your petition). Amen.

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.” Saint Padre Pio

Feast Days – 9th Sept – St. Ciaran of Clonmacnoise Ciarán was born in around 516 in County Roscommon. His father was a carpenter and chariot maker. As a boy, Ciarán worked as a cattle herder .He was a student of Finian’s at Clonard and in time became a teacher, himself. Columba of Iona said of Ciarán, “He was a lamp, blazing with the light of wisdom.” In about 534, he left Clonard for Inishmore where he studied under Enda of Aran, who ordained him a priest and advised him to build a church and monastery. In 544, he finally settled in Clonmacnoise, where he founded the Monastery of Clonmacnoise with ten fellow companions. As abbot, he worked on the first buildings of the monastery; however, he died about seven months later of a plague, in his early thirties. His feast day is 9 September.

PRAYER TO ST. CIARAN OF CLONMACNOIS Most glorious God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit- we thank you for the lift of your servant St. Ciaran. By his example of fervent charity towards the poor, may we be ever more motivate to seek opportunities to help the downcast and lowly. Through his intercession as a miracle worker, ma you grant relief to all the sick and suffering; blessing with hope, all those who despair. may St. Ciarán, “a lamp blazing with the light of wisdom.” intercede on our behalf; bringing grace to the faithful and glory toy our holy name. Amen

The Season of Creation The Season of Creation from Sept1st to Oct 4th, the feast of St Francis of Assisi, is an opportunity in our Liturgical calendar to notice and pray for creation in a special way. It can remind us of our part to play in the interconnected web of life, of the importance of caring for the myriad of life systems on our planet and how we can be part of the restorative care that brings peace and allows for resting places for all our species on this planet. This year’s theme is “Peace with Creation”. Inspired by Isaiah “My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings and in quiet resting places” Ceremonies to mark the season of Creation will be held in the parish in September. Confirmation of dates will be given in early September.

Feast Days – 3rd Sept – St. Gregory the Great. St. Gregory the Great was a Roman noble who, after serving as the city’s governor, became a monk and then a pope. He is famous for sending missionaries, including St. Augustine of Canterbury, to England to spread Christianity. As pope, he reformed the Church, helped the poor during a famine, and is known for his writings, his efforts to save Rome, and for popularizing the title “Servant of the Servants of God. St. Gregory the Great is the patron saint of musicians, singers, students, and teachers.

A Prayer to St. Gregory the Great Father, you guide your people with kindness and govern us with love. By the prayers of Saint Gregory, give the spirit of wisdom to those you have called to lead your Church. May the growth of your people in holiness be the eternal joy of your shepherds. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Feast Days – 27th August – St. Monica – 28th August – St Augustine St. Monica and St. Augustine were mother and son, whose lives are intertwined through faith and conversion. Monica, a devout Christian, prayed for the conversion of her son Augustine, who initially lived a life away from the Church and embraced worldly pursuits. After years of prayer and Monica’s persistent guidance, Augustine experienced a profound conversion and became a renowned theologian and Doctor of the Church. Their story is a testament to the power of prayer, the enduring nature of a mother’s love, and the transformative grace of God. St Monica is the patron saint of Mothers, St Augustine is the patron saint of Theologians.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING We have to state, without mincing words, that there is an inseparable bond between our faith and the poor. May we never abandon them.” Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium

The Season of Creation The Season of Creation from Sept1st to Oct 4th, the feast of St Francis of Assisi, is an opportunity in our Liturgical calendar to notice and pray for creation in a special way. Prayer to St. Monica  St Agustine O God, who granted Saint Monica the grace to convert her son, Saint Augustine, and who blessed them both with holiness, grant us the grace to follow their example. We ask for your mercy on those who are lost, and we pray for the strength and wisdom to persevere in faith, just as St. Monica and St. Augustine did. Through their intercession, may we all be drawn closer to you.

Love begins today. Today someone is suffering, today someone is in the street, today someone is hungry. Our work is for today, yesterday has gone, tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today to make Jesus know, loved, served fed, clothed, sheltered. Do not wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will not have them if we do not feed them today. St Teresa of Calcutta 1910-1997
