A Prayer for the New Year As the new year begins, I look to You for our hope, joy, and peace. Give me the courage to do all that You ask of me. Please also make me brave to not do what isn’t from You. Show me how to walk in grace and embrace Your love for me even more. Amen

Feast Days 20th Jan – St. Sebastian St. Sebastian was born in Gaul (France), he joined the Roman army in Rome and became a captain in the elite Praetorian Guard, secretly serving fellow Christians under Emperor Diocletian. He was also an early Christian martyr (c. 255-288 AD) known for his secret faith, When his Christian activities (encouraging martyrs, converting people) were discovered, Diocletian ordered him tied to a post and shot with arrows, leaving him for dead but surviving, only to be clubbed to death later.  He’s the patron saint of athletes, soldiers, and plague victims. He is often depicted tied to a post with arrows, though he’s more famously associated with surviving the plague due to prayers.

A Prayer for St. Sebastian Glorious St. Sebastian, powerful martyr and saint, Your faith was so deep, a multitude of arrows could not destroy you. I call on your strength and courage to help me through this difficult trial. I ask for your intercession, that I may also survive that which threatens to destroy my beliefs and my well-being. Protect me from pestilence, illness, and all dangers, visible and invisible. Strengthen my faith, grant me perseverance, and help me to live a simple, orderly life pleasing to God. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

CHRISTMAS TIME After the annual celebration of the paschal mystery, the Church has no more ancient custom than celebrating the memorial of the Nativity of the Lord and of his first manifestations, and this takes place in Christmas Time. Christmas Time runs from First Vespers (Evening Prayer I) of the Nativity of the Lord up to and including the Sunday after Epiphany or after 6 January. The Vigil Mass of the Nativity is used on the evening of 24 December, either before or after First Vespers (Evening Prayer I). DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SURVEY  – HAVE YOUR SAY. The current Department of Education survey on the future of patronage in the primary sector is important in that it will shape the discussion on primary school divesting for the years to come throughout the Republic of Ireland. The survey is school specific and needs to be responded to by all parents and prospective parents locally. It is important that those who wish for a change in patronage would have their voice heard. It is equally important that those who wish for a Catholic education for their children, and the support for sacramental preparation available in Catholic schools, would have their voice heard also. For those reasons and to ensure that an accurate picture emerges, please participate in this survey if you are a parent or a prospective parent of a Primary school student. The survey can be accessed at www.gov.ie/primaryschoolsurvey/ It closes on Tuesday, December 16.

Minister of Eucharist  November 2025 Church of Our Lady Blessington SAT 6PM: Mary Fenton & Pat McGrath SUNDAY 10AM: Charmaine Quinn & Catriona Cullen.

Popes Intentions NOV 2025 FOR THE PREVENTION OF SUICIDE Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of Life.

Pope Francis

The great danger in today’s world, pervaded as it is by consumerism, is the desolation and anguish born of a complacent yet covetous heart, the feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures, and a blunted conscience. Whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor. God’s voice is no longer heard, the quiet joy of his love is no longer felt, and the desire to do good fades. This is a very real danger for believers too. Many fall prey to it, and end up resentful, angry and listless. That is no way to live a dignified and fulfilled life; it is not God’s will for us, nor is it the life in the Spirit which has its source in the heart of the risen Christ.

The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness.

With Christ joy is constantly born anew.

Feast Days – 3rd Dec – St. Francis Xavier St. Francis Xavier was a Spanish missionary born in 1506. When he was 19, he moved to Paris to study and become a university professor. In Paris, he met Ignatius of Loyola and was inspired to serve God. He who helped found the Jesuit order and travelled to Asia to spread Christianity. He worked as a priest in places like India and Japan, living among the poor and baptizing thousands of people. He died in 1552 on an island off the coast of China while trying to reach the mainland.

Powerful Prayer to St. Francis Xavier. Great Saint Francis, well-beloved and full of charity, in union with you I reverently adore the Divine Majesty. I give thanks to God for the singular gifts of grace bestowed on you in life and of glory after death, and I beg of you, with all the affection of my heart, by your powerful intercession, obtain for me the grace to live a holy life and die a holy death. I beg you to obtain for me … (mention your petition). But if what I ask is not for the glory of God and for my well-being, obtain for me, I beseech you, what will more certainly attain these ends. Amen.

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

The Wonder of Creation Coral reefs are living structures Though they look like rocks, coral reefs are made up of tiny living animals called coral polyps.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL  TEACHINGS “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” St Catherine of Sienna

Prayer for November Lord God, whose days are without end and whose mercies beyond counting, keep us mindful that life is short and the hour of death unknown. Let your Spirit guide our days on earth in the ways of holiness and justice, that we may serve you in union with the whole Church, sure in faith, strong in hope, perfect in love. And when our earthly journey is ended, lead us rejoicing into your kingdom, where you live forever and ever. Amen

www.thesower.net In November we remember. Did you know that you can light a candle and leave a prayer request on Deacon Gerrys new website www.thesower.net

Feast Days – 22nd November – St. Cecilia, Virgin & Martyr. Saint Cecilia probably lived in the second or third century, and tradition says she died about 177 AD. Although details of her life may be unknown to us, Saint Cecilia was one of the most revered early virgin martyrs of Rome, as evidenced by her name  appearing in the  Roman Canon of the Mass. She is the patron Saint of Music and Musicians.

Prayer to Saint Cecilia O glorious St. Cecilia, virgin and martyr, you won the martyr’s crown without renouncing your love for Jesus, the delight of your soul. We ask that you help us to be faithful in our love for Jesus, that, in the communion of the saints, we may praise Him twice in our song of rejoicing for the Blood that He shed which gave us the grace to accomplish His will on earth. Amen.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL  TEACHINGSAuthentic social peace is possible only if we strive for justice through dialogue, forgiveness and reconciliation. Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti

The Wonder of Creation Butterflies can taste with their feet Their feet have taste sensors, so they know if a leaf is good to lay eggs on just by landing on it.

Amen

Feast Days 11th November – St. Martin Of Tours, Bishop November 11th is the feast day for St. Martin of Tours, a Roman soldier who became a bishop and is known for his generosity, particularly for famously sharing his cloak with a beggar. He was born around 316 AD in Pannonia (modern-day Hungary. He is considered the first non-martyr to be honoured as a saint and is the patron saint of France, as well as being a patron of other countries and professions. In Ireland, the day was also known as “Martinmas” and was associated with traditions like the sacrifice of a goose and a ban on certain labour,  like turning wheels. He died on Nov 8th 397.

Prayer of St Martin of Tours Father, by his life and death Martin of Tours offered you worship and praise. Renew in your hearts the power of your love, so that neither death nor life may separate us from you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. Feast Days – 3rd Nov – St Malachy. St Malachy was born near Armagh in l094. He became vicar of Ceallach, the reforming Bishop of Armagh, and he continued this work of reform as Bishop of Connor and, later, Bishop of Armagh. Earlier he had restored the monastery of Bangor and in 1142 founded the monastery of Mellifont, the first Cistercian house in Ireland. He had visited St Bernard at Clairvaux on a journey to and from Rome in 1139. He also introduced the Canons Regular into Ireland. In 1148 Malachy set out from Ireland to meet the pope but died on his way at Clairvaux, where he caught fever and died in the arms of Bernard and is buried in the abbey church.

A Prayer to St Malachy. Most fatherly Archbishop of Armagh, enkindle the hearts of bishops and priests that, aided by your patronage and example, they may labour to form a holy people, strong in faith, constant in prayer, abounding in charity, devoted to the Sacraments and loyal to the See of Peter. O Saint rich in mercy and compassion, look upon all who are suffering or in need and obtain for them support, healing and hope. St Malachy, ablaze with heavenly fire, be a light to guide us on our pilgrim way to the Kingdom of Heaven.  There may we be united with you in singing the praises of God forever.  Amen.

Congratulations to the winners of the Valleymount and Lacken draw, for October: Jane Broe, Kathleen Clarke, Jake Kavanagh, Brigid & John Cahill, Maureen Phibbs, Sadie & Seamus Miley.

Many thanks to all who donated delicious home bakes and fresh veg for the Harvest mass of Thanksgiving in Lacken church. The sum of €700 was raised from the sale of produce. Your generosity will make a difference to the lives of young children in Rumbek South Sudan.

Popes Intentions NOV 2025 FOR THE PREVENTION OF SUICIDE Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of Life.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL  TEACHINGS The human person possesses a dignity that must be respected and protected at every stage of life. ~ Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen
