July 28th – World day for the Grandparents and elderly Pope Francis established a World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly which took place for the first time on Sunday 25 July 2021. The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated for the fourth time in 2024 on Sunday 28 July – the Sunday closest to the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, Grandparents of Jesus. The theme chosen by Pope Francis for this year’s celebration is: Do not cast me off in my old age” (cf. Psalm 71:9). The Catholic Grandparents Association has been at the forefront in campaigning for a greater recognition of Grandparents for their role and vocation in passing on their faith to the next generation. This new worldwide celebration in the Universal Church calendar is a momentous achievement for Grandparents and the Elderly and will hopefully reassure them that they are loved and that they are needed. “By cherishing the charisms of grandparents and the elderly, and the contribution they make to the life of the Church, the World Day seeks to support the efforts of every ecclesial community to forge bonds between the generations and to combat loneliness, in the awareness that – as Scripture states – “It is not good for man to be alone” (Gen 2:18),” according to the press release.

At a ceremony in St Peter’s Basilica on Ascension ThursdayPope Francis solemnly proclaims the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, “Hope” is the overarching theme. Pope Francis announces that the Jubilee Year will begin with the opening of the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve, 2024.

A Prayer for our Parish Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and  the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

July 30th International day of friendship God values friendship. It is mentioned many times in the Bible Luke 10.1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two[a] others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. The disciples didn’t have to go alone They had a loving faithful friend by their side so they could bear all things

In his message, Pope Francis will draw on the verse from Psalm 71 that depicts the plea of an elderly person who reflects on the story of their friendship with God. “By cherishing the charisms of grandparents and the elderly, and the contribution they make to the life of the Church, the World Day seeks to support the efforts of every ecclesial community to forge bonds between the generations and to combat loneliness, in the awareness that – as Scripture states – “It is not good for man to be alone” (Gen 2:18), according to the press release

Prayer for a Friend O Lord, please bless our friendship. Our friendship is like a long steady soft rain. It’s not so harsh that it will destroy. Yet itis not so soft that it goes unnoticed. Our friendship is growing in your grace. Please bless our friendship, and keep it holy at all times. friendship is a gift from you, O Lord, and we thank you. May our friendship always produce the fruits of the spirit. And may the soft rain of our friendship nourish the heart forever. Amen

On July 14th, a group of parishioners from Blessington and neighbouring townlands visited the new Creation garden in Knock.  This innovative garden, which was blessed at the end of May, tells the story of creation beginning with the moment when the universe began some 13.8 billion years ago. Through a series of 30 steps, we learn about the evolution of our planet from the moment of the Big Bang to the present day. Each step along the 0.5km walk displays a relevant quote from scripture. This garden is worth a visit for all who desire to enrich their understanding of our Common home.

July 25 – St James the Apostle. July 25th is the Feast Day of St James the Apostle, the Patron Saint of Spain, who was born at Bethsaida in Galilee. He was a fisherman, and was called by Jesus, together with his brother, Saint John. St James is probably best known today because of the Camino, the famous pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, in Spain. Accord Prayer for Marriage & Family Life

July 26thSt Joachim and Anne. July 26 is the Feast Day of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus. We thank God for all that our grandparents have done for us and continue to do; for the love that they bring to our families, for the special relationship that exists between the generations and for handing down to us the precious gift of faith. We pray that all our grandparents may be encouraged, valued and enjoy good health as they continue to enrich our lives. Guide me to know what is right and fill me with the courage to act so

Labyrinth

A prayer labyrinth is a circular path that leads to a center and back out again. It is a metaphor for the spiritual journey and a way of praying with the body and the soul12. A prayer labyrinth can be used to worship and praise God, intercede for others, and seek personal and spiritual transformation2. Walking meditation gives us time and space to listen and respond to the Lord . The earliest examples of labyrinths go back nearly 5,000 years.  There is one in Glendalough. Steps of praying with a Labyrinth you can begin your walking meditation with the following steps. 1. Name your intention Since we embark on a walking meditation in order to hear and respond to the Lord, invite God to walk with you during this prayer period. Ask for the grace to hear and respond to him. If you have any particular intentions on your heart, name them to God at this time and tell him that you will carry these intentions with you during the walk. 2. Walk the path Enter and follow the path of the labyrinth, knowing that God is with you. Go at a pace that feels natural. let your prayer unfold as you go and trust in God’s guidance. If your mind wanders to thoughts that seem like distractions, name the distraction, lift it up to God and ask God to guide your mind and heart back to him. If the distraction returns, explore it with God. 3. Give thanks When you reach the centre of the labyrinth, thank God for having walked with you along the way. 4. Reflect Afterwards, take time to reflect on your walking meditation.

A Prayer for our Parish Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and  the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

CARE OF THE EARTH  Beware of unauthorised Waste collectors Make sure your waste collection provider is a genuine business with a waste collection permit. Permitted collectors bring their waste to authorised waste facilities where it can be disposed of properly.  Unauthorised waste activity has the potential to cause serious pollution to the environment

Thought for the week Be yourself, everyone else is taken

he Great Amen It is the Amen we use at the end of the Eucharistic prayer. It is known as the Great Amen. Amen means “so be it”. This means you are not a spectator at Mass. You, like the priest. Are offering the Body and Blood of Jesus to the Father. When you say the word Amen you are giving your assent to what has been happening throughout the Eucharistic prayer. As it is so important it should be said with devotion and conviction

How often can you receive the Anointing of the Sick? As often as a person needs. You can receive the Anointing of the Sick if you are seriously ill, especially when the condition is worsening. It does not matter whether you are old or young. In serious spiritual need or before an operation, people often ask for the Anointing of the Sick.

A Summer Prayer Long warm days… The pace of life slows… A time for picnics and rest in the shade… Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen.

POPES INTENTION FOR JULY For the pastoral care of the sick. Pope Francis’ intention for July 2024 is “For the pastoral care of the sick”12. Reek Sunday 2024 July 28, 2024 in Ireland Croagh Patrick, also known as the Reek, in Ireland. Reek Sunday is celebrated on July 28, 2024. Reek Sunday (or Garland Sunday) is an annually pilgrimage in Ireland. On the last Sunday in July, pilgrims climb Ireland’s “holiest mountain”, Croagh Patrick (Cruach Phádraig) in County Mayo, traditionally in their bare feet. The pilgrimage has been held yearly for about 1,500 years. It is held in honour of Saint Patrick who, according to tradition, spent 40 days fasting on the mountain in the year 441, following Jesus and Moses.

CARE OF THE EARTH  ELVs end of life Vehicles Make sure you deal with an authorised dealer who can dispose of your vehicle in a way that protects the environment Get a certificate of destruction (COD) so you know you’ve met your obligations

Thought for the week A weakness can with God’s help become the strongest thing about us.

he Great Amen It is the Amen we use at the end of the Eucharistic prayer.

He prays that the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will give strength from the Lord to those who receive it and their loved ones, becoming a visible sign of compassion and hope for everyone

CARE OF THE EARTH  All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, Avoid using insecticides, fungicides and herbicides These potent chemical cocktails are designed to kill various organisms. One of the best things you can do for pollinators is avoid using them. Why: Insecticides have been found to kill, harm, and disorientate pollinators. Herbicides kill the ‘weeds’ that provide them with important food. www.pollinators.ie/ top-ten-ways-to-help-pollinators/

Amen

CARE OF THE EARTH  Did you know… There are live enzymes in honey. When in contact with a metal spoon these enzymes die the best way to eat honey is with a wooden spoon. Honey contains a substance that helps your brain work better. Honey is one of the rare foods on earth that alone can sustain human life. One teaspoon of honey is enough to sustain human life for 24 hours. Propolis that bees produce, is one of the most powerful natural antibiotics. Honey has no expiration date. A bee lives less than 40 days, visits at least 1000 flowers and produces less than a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. Deep gratitude to the humble bee.

Thought for the week Stop using your energy to worry. Use your energy to believe, create, love, grow, manifest and heal

St. Maria Goretti is the Patron Saint of purity, young women, and youth in general. She is also the Patron Saint of children, young girls, the poor, martyrs, chastity, and forgiveness. She was canonised by Pope Pius XII in 1950, becoming the youngest Roman Catholic saint officially recognised by name. She is known for her ability to forgive the man who murdered her even as she lay on her deathbed.

The Great Amen It is the Amen we use at the end of the Eucharistic prayer.

He prays that the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will give strength from the Lord to those who receive it and their loved ones, becoming a visible sign of compassion and hope for everyone

Prayer before exam Father, Be with me as I take this exam. Keep my mind alert and my memory sharp. Calm my nerves and help me concentrate. I know that you walk with me, Guiding my path and inspiring my heart. I pray that I would feel you with me, And that your friendship would soften the pressure I fee. I pray that I would pass this exam and go on to new things with you. Thank you for your peace and your love in my life. Thank you for your kindness and care for me. Amen.

A Summer Prayer Long warm days… The pace of life slows… A time for picnics and rest in the shade… Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen.

Popes’ intention for June For migrants fleeing their homes We pray that migrants fleeing from war or hunger, forced to undertake journeys full of danger and violence, find welcome and new opportunities in the countries that receive them.

Fathers day

Happy fathers day to all father, grandfathers and god-fathers!  Enjoy! “god our father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice. We pray for our own fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; may they know that the god of compassion walks with them in their sorrow. We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice. We remember fathers, grandfather, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen” Thought for the week Someone somewhere is depending on you to do what God has called you to do.

Care of the earth BE GENTLE WITH THE EARTH

Novena Prayer Lord Jesus Christ, your heart was moved with love for those who came for help in their need. You healed the sick, you fed the hungry, you forgave sinners, you cried over Jerusalem. Above all, you showed to those who were prepared to listen the way to true life, for you are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Lord, your heart is all moved today by your people and their many needs. Open my heart to hear your word, to accept your love and to respond to your call. In particular, I beg you to grant me the favour I ask during this Novena (make your request silently), provided that it will contribute to my own eternal good and to the building up of your kingdom of love, peace and justice here on earth. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

WHAT IS CARBON FOOTPRINT?  Calculating carbon footprint is a way of measuring the mark an event, organization, person, or product leaves on the environment. You do this by examining how much carbon each action releases, and quantifying it in terms of carbon dioxide equivalent. As the world nears the climate change tipping point, learning how to reduce carbon footprint is becoming increasingly important on both a personal and collective level. While we each strive to find ways to reduce our carbon footprint, the planet is getting hotter, its storms more severe, its animals and agriculture more endangered, calling humanity’s future survival into question. The negative effects of climate change are becoming more pronounced every year. We’ve already seen record-breaking floods, devastating hurricanes, and brutally intense heat waves that drain the water supply and change insect life cycles. The impacts of climate change are pretty obvious.
