Feast Days

1^st October – St. Thérèse St Thérèse was born in France. She always wanted to become a nun from a young age and joined the Carmelites in Lisieux when she was 15.  After a long struggle with tuberculosis, she died on September 30, 1897, at the age of 24. Her last words were the story of her life: “My God, I love You!” Therese helped others with small acts of kindness. Therese’s body on March 26, 1923, from the “Pittsburgh Catholic” Paris, April 9 – The body of Sister Thérèse of the Infant Jesus has been taken from the cemetery of Lisieux, where it was buried in 1897, and carried to the Lisieux Chapel of the Carmel, which is to be its final resting place.

4^th October – Francis of Assisi St Francis was born in Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone 1181 Assisi. As a boy, Francis attended school and learned Latin and French. In 1202 Francis took part in a war. He was taken prisoner and held for almost a year. In 1205 Francis planned to fight in another conflict, but on his way there he had a vision. He founded the Franciscan orders, including the Poor Clares and the lay Third Order. He and St. Catherine of Siena are the patron saints of Italy, and he is also the patron saint of ecology and of animals. Later in life, Francis reportedly received a vision that left him with the stigmata of Christ — marks resembling the wounds Jesus Christ suffered when he was crucified — making Francis the first person to receive such holy wounds. He was canonized as a saint on July 16, 1228.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will be held this Sat Sept 28th at 6pm in the Church of Our Lady Blessington for our Tidy Town volunteers who have transformed our church grounds in recent months The blessing of the new border area will take place after mass.

The Annual Blessing 0f Pets  will take place in the Church car park on Sat Oct 5th@2 pm to mark the feast of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.

St. Therese O Glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God. Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles… the greatest saint of Modern Times.” Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention in silence here) and to carry out your promises of spending heaven doing good on earth… of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses.

Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfil your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.

Season of Creation 2024 Theme: To Hope and Act with Creation The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from Sept 1st to Oct 4th ( feast of St Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of Creation as well as encouraging awareness raising initiatives to protect the natural environment. Dates for ceremonies to mark the Season of Creation in the parish to follow.

At a ceremony in St Peter’s Basilica on Ascension Thursday, Pope Francis solemnly proclaims the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, “Hope” is the overarching theme. Pope Francis announces that the Jubilee Year will begin with the opening of the Holy Door of St Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve, 2024

ALZHEIMER CAFÉ NAAS The Alzheimer Café evening takes place on the last Wednesday of every month from 7pm to 9pm in the Convent Tea Rooms at McAuley Place, Sallins Road, Naas (Beside Parish Church). Those living with a dementia, families, carers and professionals with an interest in the area are all welcome to attend. Each month a different speaker will give a perspective on Alzheimer disease and an open discussion takes place with questions and answers.

Reflection Of Autumn As we watch leaves fluttering to the ground in the fall, we are reminded that nature’s cycles are mirrored in our lives.  Autumn is a time for letting go and releasing things that have been a burden. This is the right time to practice getting out of the way and letting Spirit take charge of our lives.

May the beauty of this world and the love that created it be expressed through our lives and be a blessing to others, now and always.
