Feast Days
1st October – St. Thérèse St Thérèse was born in France. She always wanted to become a nun from a young age and joined the Carmelites in Lisieux when she was 15. After a long struggle with tuberculosis, she died on September 30, 1897, at the age of 24. Her last words were the story of her life: “My God, I love You!” Therese helped others with small acts of kindness. Therese’s body on March 26, 1923, from the “Pittsburgh Catholic” Paris, April 9 – The body of Sister Thérèse of the Infant Jesus has been taken from the cemetery of Lisieux, where it was buried in 1897, and carried to the Lisieux Chapel of the Carmel, which is to be its final resting place.
4th October – Francis of Assisi St Francis was born in Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone 1181 Assisi. As a boy, Francis attended school and learned Latin and French. In 1202 Francis took part in a war. He was taken prisoner and held for almost a year. In 1205 Francis planned to fight in another conflict, but on his way there he had a vision. He founded the Franciscan orders, including the Poor Clares and the lay Third Order. He and St. Catherine of Siena are the patron saints of Italy, and he is also the patron saint of ecology and of animals. Later in life, Francis reportedly received a vision that left him with the stigmata of Christ — marks resembling the wounds Jesus Christ suffered when he was crucified — making Francis the first person to receive such holy wounds. He was canonized as a saint on July 16, 1228.

Miraculous Invocation to
St. Therese O Glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God. Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles… the greatest saint of Modern Times.” Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention in silence here) and to carry out your promises of spending heaven doing good on earth… of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses.
Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfil your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.
Devotion to Saint Francis of Assisi O beloved Saint Francis, gentle and poor, your obedience to God and your simple, deep love for all God’s creatures led you to the heights of heavenly perfection and turned many hearts to follow God’s will. Now, in our day, pray also for us, in our ministry to the many who come here searching for peace and intercede for us as we come before the Lord with our special requests. [Mention your special intention.] O blessed Saint of God, from your throne among the hosts of heaven present our petitions before our faithful Lord. Feast Days
23rd Sept – St. Pius of Pietrelcina
Pio of Pietrelcina (born Francesco Forgione; 25 May 1887 – 23 September 1968), widely known as Padre Pio (Italian for ‘Father Pius’), was an Italian Capuchin friar, priest, stigmatist, and mystic. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church.
Pio joined the Capuchins at fifteen and spent most of his religious life in the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo. He was marked by stigmata in 1918, leading to several investigations by the Holy See. Despite temporary sanctions imposed by the Vatican, his reputation kept increasing during his life, attracting many followers to San Giovanni Rotondo. He was the founder of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, a hospital built near the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo.
After his death, his devotion continued to spread among believers all over the world. He was beatified on 2 May 1999 and canonized on 16 June 2002 by Pope John Paul II. His relics are exposed in the sanctuary of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, next to the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo, now a major pilgrimage site.
27th Sept – St. Vincent de Paul
Vincent de Paul, CM born 24 April 1581, commonly known as Saint Vincent de Paul, was an Occitan French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor.
In 1622, Vincent was appointed as chaplain to the galleys. After working for some time in Paris among imprisoned galley slaves, he returned to be the superior of what is now known as the Congregation of the Mission, or the “Vincentians” (in France known as “Lazaristes”), which he co-founded.
He was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity. Vincent was canonized in 1737 and is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.
Vincent died in Paris on 27 September 1660.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, a charitable organization dedicated to the service of the poor, was established in 1833 by French university students. The society is today present in 153 countries.

Feast Days 17th Sept – St. Cornelius Cornelius was a Roman priest who was elected pope during the lull in the persecution of Christians under Emperor Decius and after the papacy had been vacant for more than a year following St. Fabian’s martyrdom. He is the patron of earache, epilepsy, fever, twitching, and also of cattle, domestic animals, and the town of Kornelimünster, Germany, where his head is enshrined. In June 251, Emperor Decius was killed in battle with the Goths; and persecutions resumed under his successor, Trebonianus Gallus. Cornelius was exiled to Centumcellae, Italy, where he died in June 253. The Liberian catalogue ascribes his death to the hardships of banishment; later sources say he was beheaded.

Help us to be steadfast in our faith, even in the face of challenges and obstacles. Intercede on our behalf to the Lord, that we may be blessed with your wisdom and strength. We are worried about our environment, We need some enlightenment, Let’s stop all the confusion, Let’s start a green revolution. We need to stop and listen, To our world’s petition. We need to recycle, We need to re-use Not to waste water, We need to choose.

Minister of Eucharist September 2024 Church of Our Lady Blessington SAT 6PM: Theresa Ball, Geraldine McMulkin & Mary McCormack SUNDAY 10AM: Kay Clarke & Aisling Molloy
Feast Days 13th Sept – St. John Chrysostom. St. John Chrysostom is one of the Greek Fathers who has been declared Doctor of the Church. He is known for his preaching and public speaking, because of this his ‘writing and preaching stands out as a guide to the faithful during the history of the Church. He refused to live lavish life. In the first year alone, St John saved enough in household expenses to build a hospital. John was twice banished from Constantinople. In a cave near Antioch, he embraced extreme fasting and other ascetic practices, and studied the Bible continuously—allegedly memorizing most of it. After eight years as a hermit, John’s health suffered from his extreme fasting and penance, and he returned to Antioch to recover Forced to march for three months to his exile, John suffered greatly on this journey, as the harsh elements and rough treatment taxed his already frail health. He kept up his correspondence until the end; his letters to his friend the deaconess Olympias are a precious record of his last days. He died on Sept. 14, 407.

Parents Prayer for Returning to school Heavenly Father, Thank you for the gift of my child/children. Please watch over them as they begin a new school year. Bless their teachers, school administrators, bus drivers, school support staff, friends and classmates. Keep them safe every day. I pray they may feel Your presence and know that You are always with them. Help them recall my loving words of support for them. Give them wisdom to make good choices, and an openness to learn new things. Fill them with knowledge and positive thinking. Help them overcome obstacles and shield them from negativity. Surround my child/children with good friends who also know and love You. Help them treat each other with kindness, fairness, and respect. May they treat each person they encounter as another child of God. Grant them the Grace to place their trust in You so they may know Your peace. Amen
From the writings of St John Chrysostom If you cannot find Christ in the beggar at the Church door you will not find him in the Chalice. Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness. Happiness can only be achieved by looking inward and learning to enjoy whatever life has, and this requires transforming greed into gratitude. When we teach our children to be good, to be gentle and forgiving (all these are attributes of God) to be generous, to love their fellow human beings, to regard this present age as nothing, we instil virtue in their souls and reveal the image of God within them. Why not learn to enjoy the little things, there are so many of them.

Be Grateful We’re grateful for the trees, The oxygen we breathe, In the summer roses bloom, At the end of the day look up at the moon. We are worried about our environment, We need some enlightenment, Let’s stop all the confusion, Let’s start a green revolution. We need to stop and listen, To our world’s petition. We need to recycle, We need to re-use Not to waste water, We need to choose.
MARY following in her footsteps, you will not lose your way; Praying to her You will not despair; Thinking about her, You will not be deluded. If she takes you by the hand, You will not fall; If she guides you, You will not know fatigue If she is with you, You will reach your destination.
CARE OF THE EARTH Composting is simple. Add food scraps and yard waste to your compost bin. Occasionally turn and water the decomposing materials. Wait several months, and then you’ll have finished compost to use in your garden.
Thought for the week Know for a fact that you are not alone. A great someone is with you Always.
