Healing Mass

Church of Our Lady Blessington

Sat December 13th Mass will take place at 11am

All are welcome

Minister of Eucharist  November 2025 Church of Our Lady Blessington SAT 6PM: Mary Fenton & Pat McGrath SUNDAY 10AM: Charmaine Quinn & Catriona Cullen.

Popes Intentions NOV 2025 FOR THE PREVENTION OF SUICIDE Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of Life.

Pope Francis

The great danger in today’s world, pervaded as it is by consumerism, is the desolation and anguish born of a complacent yet covetous heart, the feverish pursuit of frivolous pleasures, and a blunted conscience. Whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor. God’s voice is no longer heard, the quiet joy of his love is no longer felt, and the desire to do good fades. This is a very real danger for believers too. Many fall prey to it, and end up resentful, angry and listless. That is no way to live a dignified and fulfilled life; it is not God’s will for us, nor is it the life in the Spirit which has its source in the heart of the risen Christ.

The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness.

With Christ joy is constantly born anew.

Feast Days – 3rd Dec – St. Francis Xavier St. Francis Xavier was a Spanish missionary born in 1506. When he was 19, he moved to Paris to study and become a university professor. In Paris, he met Ignatius of Loyola and was inspired to serve God. He who helped found the Jesuit order and travelled to Asia to spread Christianity. He worked as a priest in places like India and Japan, living among the poor and baptizing thousands of people. He died in 1552 on an island off the coast of China while trying to reach the mainland.

Powerful Prayer to St. Francis Xavier. Great Saint Francis, well-beloved and full of charity, in union with you I reverently adore the Divine Majesty. I give thanks to God for the singular gifts of grace bestowed on you in life and of glory after death, and I beg of you, with all the affection of my heart, by your powerful intercession, obtain for me the grace to live a holy life and die a holy death. I beg you to obtain for me … (mention your petition). But if what I ask is not for the glory of God and for my well-being, obtain for me, I beseech you, what will more certainly attain these ends. Amen.

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

CATHOLIC SOCIAL  TEACHINGS “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” St Catherine of Sienna

Prayer for November Lord God, whose days are without end and whose mercies beyond counting, keep us mindful that life is short and the hour of death unknown. Let your Spirit guide our days on earth in the ways of holiness and justice, that we may serve you in union with the whole Church, sure in faith, strong in hope, perfect in love. And when our earthly journey is ended, lead us rejoicing into your kingdom, where you live forever and ever. Amen

Your compassion has been a source of comfort and strength. Thank you to all who attended the wake and the funeral mass and sent mass cards. Thank you to Father Kane for supporting our request for a simple ceremony to celebrate the life of Tommy and to Pamela Mc Loughlin for the wonderful music. To Clarkes, Dr Joyce and team and the staff of St Brigids hospice, please accept our heartfelt thanks. Thank you to all family and friends and wider community, we are deeply thankful for your thoughts, and kind messages and for keeping us in your prayers. The holy sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.

Feast Days- 24th Nov – St. Colman of Cloyne Born around 522 in County Cork, he was a royal bard before converting to Christianity around age 50. He was baptized by St. Brendan the Navigator and later became the first bishop of Cloyne. He founded a monastery at Cloyne, where a round tower stands today.

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SURVEY  – HAVE YOUR SAY. The current Department of Education survey on the future of patronage in the primary sector is important in that it will shape the discussion on primary school divesting for the years to come throughout the Republic of Ireland. The survey is school specific and needs to be responded to by all parents and prospective parents locally. It is important that those who wish for a change in patronage would have their voice heard. It is equally important that those who wish for a Catholic education for their children, and the support for sacramental preparation available in Catholic schools, would have their voice heard also. For those reasons and to ensure that an accurate picture emerges, please participate in this survey if you are a parent or a prospective parent of a Primary school student. The survey can be accessed at www.gov.ie/primaryschoolsurvey/.  It closes on Tuesday, December 16.

Amen

www.thesower.net In November we remember. Did you know that you can light a candle and leave a prayer request on Deacon Gerrys new website www.thesower.net

Feast Days – 22nd November – St. Cecilia, Virgin & Martyr. Saint Cecilia probably lived in the second or third century, and tradition says she died about 177 AD. Although details of her life may be unknown to us, Saint Cecilia was one of the most revered early virgin martyrs of Rome, as evidenced by her name  appearing in the  Roman Canon of the Mass. She is the patron Saint of Music and Musicians.

Prayer to Saint Cecilia O glorious St. Cecilia, virgin and martyr, you won the martyr’s crown without renouncing your love for Jesus, the delight of your soul. We ask that you help us to be faithful in our love for Jesus, that, in the communion of the saints, we may praise Him twice in our song of rejoicing for the Blood that He shed which gave us the grace to accomplish His will on earth. Amen.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL  TEACHINGSAuthentic social peace is possible only if we strive for justice through dialogue, forgiveness and reconciliation. Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti

The Wonder of Creation Butterflies can taste with their feet Their feet have taste sensors, so they know if a leaf is good to lay eggs on just by landing on it.

Feast Days 11th November – St. Martin Of Tours, Bishop November 11th is the feast day for St. Martin of Tours, a Roman soldier who became a bishop and is known for his generosity, particularly for famously sharing his cloak with a beggar. He was born around 316 AD in Pannonia (modern-day Hungary. He is considered the first non-martyr to be honoured as a saint and is the patron saint of France, as well as being a patron of other countries and professions. In Ireland, the day was also known as “Martinmas” and was associated with traditions like the sacrifice of a goose and a ban on certain labour,  like turning wheels. He died on Nov 8th 397.

Prayer of St Martin of Tours Father, by his life and death Martin of Tours offered you worship and praise. Renew in your hearts the power of your love, so that neither death nor life may separate us from you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Family Mass at 10am Mass in the Church of Our Lady Blessington Refreshments in the Coimin Centre

Feast Days – 3rd Nov – St Malachy. St Malachy was born near Armagh in l094. He became vicar of Ceallach, the reforming Bishop of Armagh, and he continued this work of reform as Bishop of Connor and, later, Bishop of Armagh. Earlier he had restored the monastery of Bangor and in 1142 founded the monastery of Mellifont, the first Cistercian house in Ireland. He had visited St Bernard at Clairvaux on a journey to and from Rome in 1139. He also introduced the Canons Regular into Ireland. In 1148 Malachy set out from Ireland to meet the pope but died on his way at Clairvaux, where he caught fever and died in the arms of Bernard and is buried in the abbey church.

A Prayer to St Malachy. Most fatherly Archbishop of Armagh, enkindle the hearts of bishops and priests that, aided by your patronage and example, they may labour to form a holy people, strong in faith, constant in prayer, abounding in charity, devoted to the Sacraments and loyal to the See of Peter. O Saint rich in mercy and compassion, look upon all who are suffering or in need and obtain for them support, healing and hope. St Malachy, ablaze with heavenly fire, be a light to guide us on our pilgrim way to the Kingdom of Heaven.  There may we be united with you in singing the praises of God forever.  Amen.

Congratulations to the winners of the Valleymount and Lacken draw, for October: Jane Broe, Kathleen Clarke, Jake Kavanagh, Brigid & John Cahill, Maureen Phibbs, Sadie & Seamus Miley.

Many thanks to all who donated delicious home bakes and fresh veg for the Harvest mass of Thanksgiving in Lacken church. The sum of €700 was raised from the sale of produce. Your generosity will make a difference to the lives of young children in Rumbek South Sudan.

Feast Days – 28th October – Saints Simon & Jude. Simon and Jude were ordinary men, probably farmers or fishermen, but Jesus chose them ‘to make disciples of all nations’. Saint Jude is the Patron Saint of hopeless, lost, desperate, and impossible causes. Jude was a true internationalist, traveling throughout Mesopotamia, Libya, Turkey, and Persia with St. Simon, preaching and converting many people to Christianity. He was credited with helping the early creation of the Armenian Church, and other places beyond the borders of the Roman Empire. Saint Simon is the patron saint of leather tanners. He is said to be a cousin of Jesus. Simon was known for being rigorous in converting others while showing great devotion. His life is shrouded in mystery aside from mentions in the Gospels. Tradition holds that both of them were martyred in Persia.Simon is traditionally believed to have been sawed in half, and Jude is traditionally believed to have been beaten with a club.

Prayer to Saints Simon and Jude. O glorious Apostles, Saint Simon and Saint Jude, who faithfully followed our Lord and gave your lives for the Gospel, intercede for us in our times of need. You who are powerful helpers in hopeless cases, come to our aid and bring our petitions before God’s throne. Strengthen our faith, guide us in truth, and help us to trust in God’s perfect will. Through your prayers, may we have courage in trials, peace in our hearts, and hope in God’s mercy. Saint Simon and Saint Jude, pray for us. Amen.

The Feast of all Saints, Saturday 1st November. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9.30am in the Church of Our Lady Blessington.

The Harvest Mass of Thanksgiving will be held in Lacken church on Sat Oct 25th @ 7.30 pm. Donations of food and garden produce welcome. Proceeds from the sale of food items will be shared between Lacken Church Fund and a school in Rumbek South Sudan run by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

Popes Intentions  Oct 2025 For Collaboration Between Different Religious Traditions Let us pray that believers in different religious traditions might work together to defend and promote peace, justice and human fraternity.

The Wonder of Creation. It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.~ David Attenborough

CATHOLIC SOCIAL Forgiveness does not mean forgetting. It means refusing to be consumed by the same destructive force. Pope Francis, Fratelli Tutti

A Prayer for our Parish. Heavenly Father, Bless our Church and our parish, And all the good work that goes on in them. May all who are Christians live and work together for the good of each other and the glory of your Name. May those who do not know you be brought by our example to a loving knowledge and peace with you. Amen

During World War II, when the Nazis invaded Poland, Karol secretly studied for the priesthood in an underground seminary established by the archbishop of Krakow. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1946. He was the first pope in many years who wasn’t from Italy. He travelled around the world, met with leaders of other religions, and spoke out against violence. On 2 April 2005, John Paul II had died at 84 years old, in his private apartment. On May 1, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Pope John Paul II, and Pope Francis canonized Saint John Paul II alongside Saint John XXIII on April 27, 2014.

Congratulations to the winner of the Lacken & Valleymount Draw for September: Joan & Sean Farrington, Shann & Mark Morris, Teresa Geoghegan Byrne, Rachel & Niall  Jones, Marie & Peter McDonald, Frances Byrne.

Feast Day- 7th October – Our Lady of the Rosary. Our Lady of the Rosary is the title  given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who appeared to St. Dominic in the 13th century and gave him the rosary to overcome heresy and bring peace.  The word “rosary” means “garden of roses,” where each prayer is like a spiritual rose.  Praying the rosary is a way for people to ask Mary, their heavenly mother, to pray for them and to help them grow closer to Jesus. The Rosary was John Paul II’s favourite prayer, and he made time to pray all 15 decades every day. St. Padre Pio described the Rosary is our greatest weapon!

Prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary. Our Lady of the Rosary, you care for each of us with tender motherly love.  You wish us to truly turn to you so that you may care for us as a mother. Please bring all of our needs before the throne of your Divine Son, and we particularly ask today that you pray that we and all people may grow in true devotion to you!

Hail Mary. Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Junk Kouture offers schools and students a creative way to become involved in active climate change initiatives, empowering them to lasting behavioural change.

Autumn Prayer We bless you; God of Seed and Harvest and we bless each other in this season of mellow fruitfulness. May the beauty of this world and the love that created it be expressed through our lives and be a blessing to others, now and always. And until we meet again, may God keep us in the hollow of His hand. Amen

Reflection Of Autumn As we watch leaves fluttering to the ground in the fall, we are reminded that nature’s cycles are mirrored in our lives.  Autumn is a time for letting go and releasing things that have been a burden. This is the right time to practice getting out of the way and letting Spirit take charge of our lives.
