Fifth Sunday of Lent. Jesus was destined to die so that we would have life. We must die to sin, die to our selfish ways, if we are to be alive to Christ and alive for his kingdom.

Jesus talks about little seeds in the dark earth. The little seeds will be lonely and feel cold but the sunshine will come and warm them. They will grow into sheaves of golden corn and bring food and joy to the world. Jesus said ‘that He too would be lonely and in the dark and that God Our Father would be with Him and raise Him up to a wonderful new life. Sometimes, we are in the dark and lonely too. Jesus promises that His Spirit will always be with us. Fr Liam Hickey

2021 Private Members Draw in aid of Valleymount & Lacken Churches. We will soon begin a new year for the Parish Private Members Draw for Valleymount & Lacken. This fundraiser is vitally important to the smooth running of the parish and it also enables us to continue with maintenance work on both Churches. Valleymount Parish is rightfully proud of its two beautiful churches, but they are reaching an age when work will need to be done to ensure good upkeep of the beautiful windows in Valleymount Church and general maintenance on damp issues in Lacken Church. I am very grateful to the committee and collectors for your work thus far and I hope you will be able to continue with this important work. May I take this opportunity to thank all the parishioners who continue to support this draw and maintain our buildings for future generations. With renewed thanks and every blessing. Fr Richard Behan P.P. Blessington & Valleymount

2021 Private Members Draw in aid of Valleymount & Lacken Churches

The Year of St Joseph- Pope Frances has proclaimed a special “Year of St Joseph” beginning on December 8th 2020 and extending to the same feast in 2020. Our Pope has said that this pandemic has helped us see clearly the importance of “ordinary people” who far from the limelight offer hope every day to us all. Pope Frances believes these people resemble Saint Joseph, “the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence,” who nonetheless played “an incomparable role in the history of salvation.”

Every morning at 9am Monday to Friday we pray the rosary and will now include the prayer to St Joseph as Pope Frances has asked us.

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage, and defend us from every evil.  Amen.

If The Mountain Seems Too Big Today

Then climb a hill instead.

If the morning brings you sadness,

it’s okay to stay in bed.

If the day ahead weighs heavy

And your plans feel like a curse,

there’s no shame in rearranging,

Don’t make yourself feel worse.

If a shower stings like needles

And the bath feels like you’ll drown,

If you haven’t washed your hair for days,

Don’t throw away your crown.

A day is not a lifetime

A rest is not defeat,

Don’t think of it as failure,

Just a quiet, kind retreat.

It’s okay to take a moment

From an anxious, fractured mind,

The world will not stop turning

While you get realigned.

The mountain will still be there

When you want to try again,

You can climb it in your own time,

Just love yourself til then

-Laura Ding-Edwards
