Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick is a sacramant rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus, who showed a particular care for people suffering with illness.

Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with blessed oil, the sick person receives a special grace of the Holy Spirit. This grace brings strength, peace and courage to endure illness and unites the person more closely to Christ’s Passion.

The sacrament is not only for the final moments of life. It is offered to anyone who is seriously ill, facing surgery, weakened by age, or experiencing significant physical or mental suffering. It brings comfort, forgiveness of sins (if the person is unable to celebrate Reconciliation), and a deep sense of God’s closeness.

In our parish, Anointing of the Sick takes place at every Healing Mass. You may also request Anointing of the Sick for yourself or a loved one by contacting the parish office. When celebrated near the end of life, it completes our conformity to Jesus and prepares a person for the final journey to the Father.
