Church of Our Lady, Blessington

The present Church of Our Lady, Blessington, designed by W. & J. Wejchert, opened in 1982 to serve the parish’s growing population. Its distinctive triangular design ensures all seats face the altar and includes artwork by Fergus O’Farrell and Turlough O’Donnell. The church continues a long Catholic tradition in the parish, from the early chapel at Woodend and the church at Crosschapel to the former converted school building in Blessington town. The Coimín Centre, opened in 2015, continues to support parish life.

St Josephs, Valleymount

The Church in Valleymount, built in 1803, has a façade with a Mexican feel. Some local men returned from New Mexico (USA) at the time it was being constructed, and their design was in memory of a church they were familiar with there. It features magnificent Stained Glass windows, some from the Harry Clarke studio, which foster a great sense of prayer and stillness, and a deep sense of history .

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Lacken

The Church in Lacken was built in 1811, as a chapel of ease to Valleymount, accessed by a roadway now submerged in the reservoir. As such, it is a smaller church. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 1882, reflecting a link with the Order of Carmelite priests who served there. The Church has a sense of liturgical simplicity and beauty that well befits its location.
